Methods: This house presented many of the challenges you’d expect from a large 100 year old home, but from a painters perspective the biggest challenge was the color. The color of this home is one that came about by a client who was unhappy with the burgundy colors available from Benjamin Moore’s extensive fan deck so she mixed together several different color samples until she got it just right. The difficulty of using this color is that is is so dark and rich that touching up paint finishes is impossible.  You need to get it right once and then do no more work on or around that area of the home. Our approach for this home was to work our way around the house prepping and painting rather than prep the entire home first and then begin painting. Lots of hand painting were require for accents, deck rails and windows. Additionally we painted two decks and the garage. The first deck is a huge garage roof top deck that gets filthy from the large cedar tree overhead. This deck required hours of meticulous removal of debris from in between each deck board before coating with Floor & Patio paint. The back deck was small plywood deck that we coated with Spantex — an elastomeric product that gives long life and waterproofing to this type of deck. The results of our work speak for themselves on this one — this is an absolutely unique paint job that no one can walk by without saying wow.
